Location: Lahore, Pakistan

This project consisted of rehabilitating an Art Deco building built in the 1950s. Throughout the years, the building was appropriated to serve as office spaces, and later as a school. The adaptive reuse of the building as an AirBnB dictated the architectural design. The aim of the project was to restore the original features of the residence and integrate them with principles of modern design such as neutral tones and natural materials, contrasting with sleek modern hardware.

This project created an integrated design aesthetic for a group of five companies with a common reception and cafeteria. By analyzing co-working spaces around the world as case studies, the same principles were applied here. Company colors were combined with sound absorbers to create a pleasant sensory experience that resulted in a practical yet creative solution for each space.

These unique housing developments sit at a high altitude in Fort Monroe, D.G. Khan, and aim to attract residents and visitors from the surrounding provinces of Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab. The rugged landscape was studied in great detail using specialized technology to create a framework for development. Since water is a scarce resource in this region, the natural undulations were used to develop water retention ponds for storage and recreational purposes.

This project was heavily influenced by the strong aesthetic sense of the client who wanted each space to have unique elements of design. While keeping the color palette neutral, the interior was enriched using materials such as brass and marble to bring a luxurious appeal.

This project takes inspiration from mid-century modern design. Using a mix of natural tones and pops of color, the spaces seamlessly blend into each other while maintaining their own unique character.

Studio Lahore was engaged in the interior and exterior design of Pasta La Vista, a Lahore-based restaurant, opening its first branch in Islamabad. A complete document was prepared with drawings as well as interior elements, lighting design, furniture development, etc.

Studio Lahore is engaged in the ongoing interior design works for the Coca Cola HQ in Lahore. Our design focuses on keeping the furniture elements consistent, yet flexible, to create more multi-functional spaces. This was achieved through modular furniture. Studio Lahore strongly believes in ethical practices and hence used the idea of upcycling in the design of furniture elements for the rooftop.

As specialists in the field of Historic Preservation, Studio Lahore had a unique opportunity to work on the development of the Noor Mahal Museum in Bahawalpur. The project consisted of preparing an overall scheme for the Mahal’s adaptive reuse into a museum. Studio Lahore focused on the re-branding of the museum in terms of a new logo, website, tickets and brochure design. The website can be accessed here: www.noormahalmuseum.com

Additionally, a proposal was prepared and implemented for three spaces: the Media Gallery, Museum Shop, and Reception.

Location: Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan

This private estate involved the design of a 35 Kanals landscape that would partially be reserved for private use, while the rest would be utilized for holding large public gatherings. The client preferred a classic, formal garden setting, with reflection pools and wide tree lined pathways, all leading from the back of the main building, to the boundary wall of the estate. The design begins as a formal garden in the more public areas, but then becomes increasingly organic, with meandering pathways, seasonal flower walks, and large shaded spots to provide relief in the extreme heat. Plant selection played a key role in this project, so we worked alongside a horticulturist to select the appropriate species and ensure they were placed as per design.

Folklore is a restaurant located on MM Alam road in Lahore. This project was especially challenging because it consisted of partially renovated spaces implemented by a previous tenant. Studio Lahore experimented with the interior finishes and added accents wherever possible in an already visually busy space. Illumination was a strong feature of the proposed design, which made it possible to highlight appealing characteristics of the spaces. A proposal for an adjacent ice-cream bar was also developed.

This residence was based around the idea of a central courtyard and/ or a light well, with all windows and views directed to this space. Since neighbouring homes limit views around the property, these inward views offered the clients the privacy they were hoping for. The modern house features a large double height foyer, lots of indirect natural light, clear division of private and semi-private spaces, and passive cooling techniques.

Location: Rijeka, Croatia

This intense workshop, held in collaboration with the Architectural Association of Rijeka and Universià G. d’Annunzio, required a reimagining of urban structure of the city of Rijeka, Croatia, to redefine the relationship between the port and the city. By understanding and analyzing the city’s unique landscape, from the mountains to the sea, walkability and accessibility were the driving force behind the redesign and restructuring. A new system of canals, natural water purification through wetlands, and green corridors were meshed together with the new proposal to use green infrastructure as part of the urban regeneration process.

Location: Chong Shu, Hangzhou Bay, China

The idea for this project was to use green infrastructure as a tool to restructure the city so that it is better equipped to deal with the recurring issue of flooding. Using its existing linear structure, understanding the flow and quantity of water, and introducing earthworks in the form of Tectonic Landscape, a strategy was formed to redesign the city while helping it cope with future flooding. This aim of the new urbanity is intertwining, weaving, stitching, and carving the ideas of one cultural fabric, like the linear villages, onto the new landscape. This forms a continuous landscape that acts as a canvas within which to create programmatic, spatial, experiential and social overlaps.

This project attempts to create a dialogue between the historical and the contemporary. It is centered around the concept of peeling-off layers of history. ‘The Urban Park’ consists of a system of internal facades along with a variety of layered spatial experiences brought together in a complex ‘vertical journey’ that attempts to reintegrate the historical Lakshmi façade into its present-day context. The proposed building takes the shape of a continuous circuit that gradually gains verticality and redefines the idea of the public park.

Location: River Ravi Flood Banks, Lahore, Pakistan

This project is an investigation into the various types of relationships that exist between Man and Nature, and how architecture can be used to explore and express these. This project not only aims to regenerate a neglected area, but also rebuild the crumbling connection between this historic river and the city. The undulation landscape museum uses abstract notions of pixilation, patchwork, and weaving to intensify the relationships between man and nature, and to respond to very local site conditions, which give it it’s distinct physical character.
